The best Dakota!
I have left my W7 OEM CD on the other side of the world, and now I need to format!:o

I came across this guys server, and I wonder if the ISO's are legit. I read something about checking the hash numbers but I can't find anything for W7 Pro OEM.

Can someone take a look and let me know, please? :p

I don't need any more back-doors open, besides what the NSA already has!

Hello SuperValhalla, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If the ISO files are not from Microsoft or an authorized Microsoft partner or retailer, then they will be illegal.

Hmmmm, I had no idea that it was illegal to host the ISO.

How on earth do I replace my OEM cd then? I've already tried to download from MS, but they don't support OEM downloads :/ I bought it when I built a system myself, so there is no manufacturer to ask.

Yep, it violates Microsoft's copyrights and EULA to publicly distribute ISO files like that.

You'll need to contact your computer manufacturer to order a replacement copy of your installation media.

Ai, what a pity :/

Like I said, I bought the disk when I built the desktop. I am the manufacturer....so how do I get another OEM disk?

If you have a friend that has a retail installation media copy of Windows 7 Pro, then you could use it to install on your computer, then activate with your OEM key.

Otherwise, you may need to purchase a new copy since it's just about impossible to get replacement installation media with an OEM key. :(

Man that really bites! I feel like I'm basically being forced to take my chances and download an ISO. I'm relatively new to the USA and don't yet have any techie mates who would have a disk. :(

Thanks for your time Brink, much appreciated!

It tells how to make sure nothing is added to an ISO in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7.

Professional OEM HASH is the same as retail: 64 bit SHA1: 0BCFC54019EA175B1EE51F6D2B207A3D14DD2B58
Use a Hash checker like HashTab which adds a HASH calculator to the ISO file Properties tabs.

Those steps will also help you get a perfect reinstall.

I'm pretty sure "Microsoft Software Recovery" is only for retail keys and not OEM keys though.

It didn't even work properly to let me download an ISO with my retail key. :(

Yea I didn't try the M$ site
I figured the service was just doing a count on how many people would use it to get an iso
Seeing how many people would be effected by not being able to reinstall 7 if the 10 windows update went bad for them ;)
The timing of all of this is just too darn !@#$%^&*

I don't know anybody who the MS Software Center has worked for. I'm going to ask about it on MVP Yammer. If this is how they replaced the ISO's which were so convenient for customers then they need to get their act together.

I think he just wanted to check the HASH on an ISO he found to know it's not cracked or seeded with vermin. :devil2:

The hash is probably cleaner than M$'s intentions :)

I believe Microsoft is trying to stop people that use their Windows 7 to Upgrade to Windows 10 to be able to go back to Windows 7.

Just use something like the free version Macrium Reflect to make an image (two images, if you are exceptionally cautious) of your Win 7 installation before upgrading to Win 10. That way, if Win 10 doesn't pan out for you, all you have to do is restore the image.

I don't believe the manufactures have ever figured out a way to stuff all of the crapware on one cd :p
Pretty much why they stopped sending a re-install disk with computers
If they did that people would clean install

The recovery disk recommended to create would indeed contain the crapware but would also take quite a few more disks to accomplish and even then would probably fail because of all of the crapware installed.

I agree a system image would help but the best program to do that is not commonly known LF :)

Here is another odd belief.
Microsoft is going to do anything and everything to make sure Windows 10 numbers look good and if that entails stepping on the toes of Windows 7 users so be it.

A image might work if Microsoft lets you use the COA for Windows 7 that you used to try Windows 10 is still good to use again to activate your image.

Just a guess, but Joe and Jane lunch box don't do backups or images and Microsoft knows that.

Microsoft did not remove sites where you could get a quality authorized ISO of Windows 7 just because they didn't like the color of their lawn.
