Are Windows Product Keys limited by language

Would this work - I buy an English copy of Win7 HP and then use the product key to activate a Chinese (TW) copy of Win7 HP?

As I understand one product key works for both 32 and 64 bit editions and I am wondering if the same applies to the language.

I think a product key is a product key as you choose you language before entering the key anyway.

I think so too. Like if you go to Technet for example, and get a new key, you're not asked for which language. So I think yes, a HP key will work no matter what language

Slightly OT but when I was working in Holland I bought a copy of Vista Home Basic (this was a while ago before I knew better or had heard of technet etc).

After installing this (the Dutch Version) I got an English upgrade to Home premium. The upgrade failed saying that I could only Upgrade to the same Language (not from NL==>ENG).

Didn't matter in the long run as I tossed Vista off tne machine and went back to XP at that period.

So Upgrade issues aren't always as straightforward as they might appear to be.

For W7 Ultimate I think you can chose the language on install anyway so its a moot point if you are using ultimate.
For the others I don't know.

The keys should be language independent, the upgrade disks are not, are the basic rules I work with.

Saying this as Windows 7 is not actually released yet and no one except Microsoft and the OEM's have seen the upgrade build yet we will have to wait a few weeks.

I would not personally assume that anything with the Upgrade system of Windows 7 will work as past upgrades.

All indications are that Microsoft are closing loopholes in this particular area as a particular priority
