Solved Arranging Icons ?

Hi,

No big deal, but one of those little annoyances.

Have a Folder with a few sub-Folders in it, as well as some text document icons.

What I would like to do is to arrange them totally as I would like, irrespective of their name (or any other attribute) and arrange them in a row according to what I want.

Would like to drag either a Folder or Text icon where I want it (the top row would be fine) and have it stay there.

Shouldn't there be some sort of simple "lock to grid" kind of option ?

Have tried just about everything in the SORT options, but none of them seems to provide this flexibility.

Is there a way to do this ?
Seems to be a bit different from what was allowed in XP

Bob. This is the THIRD THREAD of yours that I've posted in. Bizzare isn't it . Try right-clicking and going to view and the un ticking auto arrange icons.

Sorry to disappoint you, but this is a function that I believe many would be looking for, especially if they have just moved from XP, but as far as I can tell, arranging icons "anywhere you want" is limited only to the desktop now.

It has been like this since Vista...

Sorry to revive a REALLY old thread, but there is a solution for this and thought I'd share. I was looking on Google for an answer to this question and this thread was one of the hits. I figured since I'm a member here, I might as well answer.

This has worked for me on 3 different machines now without issue. Again, sorry to bring up such an old topic but it needed an answer

I love it when people put time into trying to fix what microsoft broke when designing Win 7. (XP is the best) This little program is easier to use instead of people having to go into the command prompt. Read about the second tweak option. (Folder Options X Freeware - Trusted download and reviews from SnapFiles ).
HOWEVER, the problem I'm having is that I can't get Windows Photo Viewer to play photos in the order that I have them arranged in. I need some kind of hack or tweak tool that will put the ( Arrange icons by - Modified ) into Win 7 like it was in XP, then the Photo Viewer would play photos in the correct arrangement order.

thanks zeshan! you were the one with the winner of an answer ... i googled and found this, btw. i took the 2nd checkmark out, the one about the grid, and voila! worked like a charm.
