artifacts? screen flicker...

Sometimes fingernail-sized parts of my screen flicker. Are these called artifacts?

They smooth out when I drag the mouse pointer over them.

My drivers are as new as can be.

Sounds like a driver problem.
Did you download the driver from Win update or the manufacturer? :)
