Hi all.

I have a quick question. I have recently got all my music together in one folder 'MUSIC' and am really happy. WMP12 is excellent, I like the way it functions.

What I am trying to do is to get the artwork for each album to display when I'm using WMP

I'm having mixed results.

I have some that are showing but the rest are not.

I have got the artwork but I don't know where to put it so that WMP picks it up.

Is it as simple as dropping it it the folder for each band e.g. Nirvana - In Utero picture?

Do I then have to 'refresh' media player or is it supposed to pick up the new art immediately?

Thanks for your time in advance, Ste.

Hi Ste,

Well, if you have all your music in the parent folder "Music", I assume you have individual folders for each album, so for example C:\Music\Nirvana - In Utero\track1.mp3 (sorry don't know the track name). If you search Google images for a nice album cover you like, save it to the in utero folder as folder.jpg. This will make it look nice in Explorer.

However, Windows Media Player (and most, if not all other media players) sort tracks by the metadata contained in the mp3. A little homework in wikipedia will sort you out. I'd recommend using a quality id3 editor, such as Tagscanner. It does the business, and it's free. Here you can embed album artwork in an mp3 and it will show up in WMP.

Hi,

There are other 2 ways to do this...

1, Within WMP12, Album View, right-click the Album you wish to update and select Find album info. This will take you to the Microsoft music meta site which will allow you to select the album. This option will correctly name name Album/Track/Artist/Contributing Artist and will download (if available) the Album artwork/

2, Download the file you wish to use as the Artwork, right-click it and select Copy then within WMP12, Album View, right-click the album you wish to update and select Paste album artwork

Hi, I'm back for one more question if you guys can.

All my art for my albums is working well but when I search for 'the 500 greatest songs of all time Rolling Stone' I keep on getting this message - "Album art can't be changed when a song from the album is in use. Please try again later."

I'm not playing WMP at the time, I've closed down FFox to try and paste it in manually but I still get the same response. There are 500 tunes but I thought it might pickup the album info. No worries if it can't but it would finish it.

And one other thing if poss, where does Win7 store the artwork it finds? I thought it might be in the 'MUSIC' folder but I've checked and it doesn't seem to have. It'd be nice if I could use them on my ipod.

Thanks again for your time, Ste. :0)

Hi Ste,

The first part - I'll have to get back to you on that one, but the 2nd - Where does it store the artwork - in the album folder. Go into the folder, click Tools --> Folder Options --> View. (Or Organise --> Folder & Search Options --> View.. , it's the same..).

You'll have to uncheck both the "Don't show hidden folders" (that is to say SHOW THEM... ) and "Hide protected operating system files".

They're called AlbumArtwork with lots of numbers/letters after them. I'll get back to you on the first question ... but clarify - Which method are you using?

Hi,

To get the album art and info I used no.1(below). I couldn't believe how fluid and intuitive it was. Very cool, and for free, my favourite amount :0). For the odd one or two that wouldn't comply I used no.2. This worked just as well but wasn't half as satifying! Thanks for all ideas, really appreciate it, Ste.

Hi Ste. I sent you a PM, maybe you haven't seen it yet.
I think the problem is that those songs where you're having trouble is the metadata tags are APEv2.0, and not id3v2.3.

I got around this by using Tagscanner to edit the default from APE to id3 - this unblocked the tracks and I could edit them.
