Gooday folks. I have an issue on both my laptop and pc with Ask.com toolbar that I am unable to get rid of. PC has win7 32x and laptop has win7 64x. I have chased it down to an entry in C > program files (86) on the laptop and tried to delete it from there, didn't work, tried "Lock Hunter" still no go and after a bit of looking around see that I am not the only person with this issue. I am unsure as to what to do next , so any help offered would be most appreciated.
Same results on the pc, can't get rid of it there either.
I have cleared all caches, run AVG updated, anti malwarebytes updated and windows defender. No issues spotted by any of them.
It no longer appears in the location previously mentioned, all trace has disappeared, but the tool bar is still there.
I am using FireFox and the Ask.com toolbar appears at the end of the address tool bar. It doesnt appear to be doing anything bad other than sitting there annoying the crap out of me. (It's the Aspergers! If it is not supposed to be there I dont want it there!)

Have you looked in Control Panel > Programs and Features ?
Is it listed there, and if so, can you uninstall it?

You can also check in your browser add-ons to see if it is listed there.

Ask toolbar is a pita - have to watch everything you install as it is very often an option that is selected by default.

Not to offend, but as far as I remember, ask toolbar doesn't provide uninstall option in mozilla's add-on menu. I can be wrong though. Last time when I encountered it, it wasn't there.

I'm not offended at all, we're all trying to help each other, and i appreciate the info.
I can't remember either - i haven't had it on a pc for a long time.
But, seems like most downloads try to install it...just have to read the detail...

In Firefox there are two ways you can try.... view, toolbars and untick it (you probably have done this already) OR.... tools, add-ons and disable it - don't think this uninstalls it but it should stop it showing in your browser.

No matter the toolbar, they are always made to be difficult to remove and unless you are observant when downloading something, most toolbars install as the default meaning you have to un-tick it which a lot of folks don't do.

OOPs have just noticed the last post - it may not be in the add-ons menu :(....

Gooday and thanks for the responses. I tried the "completely remove" link above but had no luck with it. I also tried Revo Uninstaller, but like everything else it can't find a trace of it on either machine. I will keep trying and notify if I have any luck.

i remember trying to help one guy with the similar problem with babylon toolbar. tried different things but nothing worked. and i suggested him to do a clean install as we could not find any uninstallers for babylon and suggested him to un-tick the option of any toolbars while installing any softwares that offer it. anyway download and install The home of Spybot-S&D! spybot search and destroy and remove/delete anything it finds.

Click on the orange firefox button , and expand options . All the active toolbars are checked there. Uncheck those which you dont want to use .

These things usually come with some programs downloaded from external sources. While installing those programs, it is to be a bit more careful before accepting a page, that what I am actually accepting . You can easily avoid all those unwanted things.

These things usually come with some programs downloaded from external sources. While installing those programs, it is to be a bit more careful before accepting a page, that what I am actually accepting . You can easily avoid all those unwanted things.

Just a wishful thinking ... as ask is a msi based installation, it should left the uninstaller in the C:\Windows\installer folder , in a subfolder thereto. If possible, it may be manually searched in that location and run the uninstaller ?

No problem with that Archi. Just thought i'd point out that. Many such toolbars sometimes even monitor user's browsing so it better be removed.
@OP
Did you delete the toolbar's install folder as Arc said? If no try running the uninstaller file if its there.
Also in the run box (Win key+R), type firefox -safe-mode
you'll get a window that firefox is running in safe mode.
Open the Add-ons window>extention and see if there's a uninstall button listed for the toolbar.

Well the command correct but may be the way of execution isn't.
Create a shortcut to firefox and right click it>properties
in the target box at the very end add that switch ...firefox.exe" -safe-mode
notice the space after the double quote and the hyphen.
What about the other manual methods of deleting the extention folder? Did you try that?
And those ask guys are asking to come to their site and have them troubleshoot instead of simply giving the uninstallation steps? That is umm.... strange.
