Aspire 9810 Card Reader driver to read Memory Cards beyond 2GB

Hey Guys (and Gals, if any)...

I have upgraded my Vista Ultimate Aspire 9810 to Win 7 Ultimate(32). Everything is fine, so far, except for the 5-in-1 Memory card reader. It only reads up to 2GB. I cannot remember, when I had Vista Ultimate on it, if it read beyond 2GB.

Any ideas!?!?!!

Are there any updated drivers that support beyond 2GB on this Aspire? I hate to add a reader via USB for that only and wastes a port.

If there's a driver for it, it'll be at Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Notebook, Aspire 9810.

Try any relating drivers from XP and Vista as well.

Thanks Gents!!! I see those same drivers for the card reader on acer usa. Yeah they are the same ones I have already...

Any other ideas?

Try using a generic driver.

Go to the device in device manager.

Right click > Properties.

Click on the Hardware tab and click the properties button.

Go to the driver tab and click uninstall (make sure you have the Acer drivers backed up).

Now 'click browse my computer for driver software' then 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.

Hopefully it will show the official Acer driver and the generic one (it may not support the generic one though, I'm not sure).

If the generic one is present pick the generic driver.

Hi paimei1211, you may be out of luck here, most older card readers cannot read the new SDHC cards anymore it may be worth spending a little amount of cash on one of the usb card readers

I was wondering this myself and I believe, although most likely it cannot read SDHC, it is still possible to get 4GB normal SD cards. I have one which I use in my old compact camera which only supports SD. However I have found it to not work in various other devices that only support SD.

goto windows update and look through the non critical updates list , there is a windows update there that resolves an issue like the one your describing , highlight the updates and read the description
windows doesnt automaticall install non critical update it may help

Thanks everyone!!! I maybe be SOL on this one, but I will try what everyone suggests. I think I have the update from Microsoft to which archie123 was referring to; about reading SD cards upto 32GB.

Yep I am SOL on this one. The older internal card readers can only go to 2GB. Oh well, I will need to purchase a USB reader...thanks everyone.
