Solved Associate viewer program to a particular file only

I like IrfanView (a viewer program) as my main viewer program. I have a small gif file that looks bad running it with Irfanview, but looks good running it with QuickTime viewer.

Is it possible to associate QuickTime to just that one single file only? Because if I change that files Properties to QuickTime, windows changes all my IrfanView's files over to QuickTime at the same time. I want to keep IrfanView as my main viewer program to open gifs, jpegs, etc. but associate that one file to QuickTime (the one file that runs bad on IrfanView).

Is this possible or do I have to use "open with" each time to view it with QuickTime.

I prefer IrfanView over QuickTime to view all my other files. I don't use QuickTime at all, except to make that one GIF file play correctly. IrfanView can run that file, but it looks a bit distorted.

Yes, but won't I have to do that procedure each time? Because, that GIF file remains an Irfanview file in explorer.

Maybe I'm not doing the procedure correctly. I am having trouble changing that one Ifranview file over to Quicktime and have no other files changed to Quicktime.

I want that one irfanview gif file listed in explorer changed over to QuickTime. Right now doing so, I only have the choice to change ALL files of this type over to Quicktime, no matter what I try (it seems). Is this a catch22 of sorts? Isn't Properties the only place I'm gonna be able to accomplish this? If so...isn't it true I only have the choice to change "All types of this file" ?

I can't seem to do this selectively.

I gotcha. I think what I'm trying to achieve isn't feasible. I want only that one file associated with Quicktime whenever I click on it, not all my GIF's. I had a feeling I wasn't gonna be able to do that, but I wanted to confirm it.

The key is "all files of this type" vs. "this one file only" (not gonna happen). Ah well.

I wanted only that ONE (and only) gif file to be listed in explorer as a Quicktime file and not affect the other gif's that open with Irfanview, but now I see I can't have two programs listing and opening gif's selectively. Silly me.

Unfortunately you can't associate just one .gif file and not all .gif files. About all you can do is use "Open with" or open the file directly from within Quicktime.

Just be sure to leave the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file box unchecked in "Open with" to not associate all .gif files.

Both programs should be listed in "Open with" to make it easy to select. If not, then you might see if the tutorial below may be able to help add them.

I see that now, and I suspected as much. Again...silly me.

Thanks for replying.

You're welcome. I hope "Open with" will be an accepatable workaround as needed.
