i hope im posting this in the correct forum. i have a asus eee 1005hab. i have a windows 7 iso. i ran ubuntu from usb and used gparted to format half of it ntfs and the other is just unallocated. i used a western digital usb external to put my "mounted" w7.iso extracted on. using winrar (i don't know if thats different from mounting) it won't boot even when i tell it to boot only from the WD external. i think i messed something up with the core of what windows os's boot from. i had previously erased everything on the internal hd with ubuntu. what should i do? thanks in advance

So can I extract from this rather confusing post that you have the computer formatted with a empty NTFS partition, and the W7 loaded to the usb Thumb I assume and it wont boot for installation?

Just for your own needs here is a link to a cnet download of the MS W7 usb/dvd download tool. Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com This has to be run in a MS environment to work and will load the thumb in a matter of about 5 minutes. It also will only work with a legitimate MS ISO of W7

thank you! that usb/dvd creator was exactly what i needed. i believe the problem lies with the WD eternal hd. windows recognizes it, yet i can't do anything with it. I've had it for years and i think it is shot. but i put the iso on a flash drive and it worked perfectly! : )
