Hi, sorry if this is a silly question but I am new to windows 7 and have just picked up a new pc. In the store i saw windows7 loaded on the PC and all looked ok.
Now when i power on the PC i get "loading ASUS express gate" then gives me a few
options but it is so quick i dont have a chance to see it clearly.
Next i get "scanning devices" - no devices found.
The pc then loads up no probs.
Oh and when I power up it beeps..is this noraml as in the past beeps usually mean trouble.
My questions before i spend endless hours installing stuff on the PC I want to make sure this is all ok.ie.
1.what is asus express gate and why am i getting the above message.
2.scanning devices.. why is this happening?
3.the beep concerns me..

thank you for your help

OK then

Express gate is a way for you to access the web and do a couple other basic things before booting to windows; You can go or you will have to go into the BIOS and there you can disable it or you can change the time that screen will stay up for you before it boots to windows. I suggest you just disable it or ignore it.

The scanning devices and no devices found is because you have the JMicron device enabled and you can also disable it in the BIOS or just ignore that screen.

The single beep on the system when booting is nothing; if the system does not boot and you get more beeps then you need to count them and you will find the scheme of what those beeps mean in your motherboard manual. I suggest that you open the case and just remove the case speaker or ignore the beeping as long as the system boots into windows as it should.

Oh yea, welcome to the forums.

JMicron is the manufacturer that made the controller chip for a particular item. Esata, USB2.0, USB3.0 etc. One of them anyway.

It is probably eSata controller on the mother board. At least that is what my Asus board has on it is a JMicron eSata.
Asus uses JMicron on a lot of their boards for the eSata controller.

Asus Express can be set disabled in Bios as Kipper noted.
JMicron you can find your model of motherboard and install the driver for it from the Asus website.
There may be a setting to disable it in Bios also. Probably!
Then download/install the driver when you get a chance.

Mike

This web page for ASUS has an Autodetect button on the top left and it will find your model and show you your drivers.

You can disable Express Gate at the Bios. If you ever need to surf the net due to a HDD problem, you can always enable it again in the BIOS. It's a great feature from ASUS.

The other message says it did not find any external Hard disk device connected to the eSata port. You can also disable at the Bios, but it will not reduce the overall boot time nor impact the way the system runs. Besides, a few months down the road, you connect an external eSata drive, don't remember you disabled the port, and will go crazy trying to figure out why it does'nt work. I keep mine enabled.

Enjoy your PC.
