I got this thing to work on my XP machine last year. It has worked fitfully on my Windows 7 machine. But what I'm noticing is that it will accept the first DVD (not Blu-Ray) disk, but when I eject that and insert a second DVD disk, the disc won't be recognized. I have to use the power switch on the burner just to get the eject button to work again and that disengages the USB connection, which doesn't revive. I have to reboot to get the burner to reappear in My Computer.

I've been doing some research for the past 2 hours. At Amazon, a few people were told by Asus tech support that the unit wasn't supported on Windows 7, but to install it on Windows 8, which seems weird because the burner was on the market before Windows 8 came out. At this site, it's noted that I'm using a VGA output to my 4:3 monitor instead of DVI or HDMI and that invokes DRM on the blu-ray drive, but I wasn't playing Red Box movies yet. I do use DVI on my XP machine to my monitor, so that may be a plus, but I didn't notice any DVI output on my laptop.

I'm getting conflicting thoughts on why the burner only accepts a first disk to play back files on without a reboot.

pulling the USB cord and placing it again should work as well.

Other Info
Was discarded by previous owner due to "horrible performance".
Was running Win Xp from a IDE drive. Yeah. Was a pain.
SATA II drive and Win7 and it zips away! Yay!
I got the drive to work on a USB 2.0 hub yesterday. Today I plugged it into the USB 3.0 port and I'm having the same problem as yesterday. The Mr. Fixit program can't read the DVD (not Blu-Ray) media during its diagnostic.

So I'm wondering about UDF 2.5 & 2.6 now, since that's what XP needed to get this drive going.

Currently I'm looking at this Hotfix for Windows 7
An update is available for the UDF file system driver (Udfs.sys) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 .

Here's a little more info about UDF 2.5 & 2.6:
4.4 What file systems are used on BD discs?

I hit the Download Now button for the hotfix, and it wants to send me an e-mail with the hotfix! Is this OS still supported? I may need a second hotfix too.

Maybe I should only use Cyberlink software or certain Nero software to use this drive instead of Windows Explorer?

M$ Fix It couldn't send the troubleshooting info to M$ because I can't read captchas multiple times, so I got sent to the Community Forum

Reviving an old thread here. Did you ever manage to get the drive to work properly? I just bought it and aside from the DVD issue (won't read them at times), it was otherwise working fine. Today it just decided to stop being recognized by my Win7 machine, which is odd as it shows up in my Device Manager (with an exclamation mark) when I plug it in via USB. But when I load a disc it won't show up nor does it show up in windows explorer.

Doesn't seem to be any Windows 7 drivers for it, I'm tempted to install a Win 8 64 bit to see if it works but came across this thread?

Tx
