Hi,in asus x550l,factory reset do it ask for product key?as it is not underneath the laptop.

What it will do is restore the original OS version, was it Ultimate.

Try looking in the battery compartment.

As Roy explained, when you do a Factory restore you don't need a activation key.
You can launch the Factory restore from BIOS.
It will format the C: drive (everything will be erased) and load an image from the restore partition.
Did the laptop came with win 7 or win 8.1?
If it came with win 7 you should also have a COA key stick (look under the battery) if you decide to install win 7 (clean install).
