Asus K53E
Hit F9 during start up and recovery loads. It offers 3 option. One partition. 2. And install to first partition. It doesn't matter what I choose but recovery restarts over and over. It starts and the first time it reboots the desktop loads and it says its still working. Asus screen shows configuring system. Reboots over and over. Don't have working discs either.

You said Recovery doesn't run and you didn't make your Recovery disks. Your choices are to order them from the OEM at considerable cost, or do the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which provides everything you need for a priceless install you couldn't even buy anywhere else and for free!

Had you been nicer I would have walked you through all of the tricks we've learned here at the top tech forums for how to force Recovery to run, even though its a grossly inferior install that no tech enthusiast would ever run.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I was nice. I didn't say anything bad.

It's not my lappy but my cousins and I'm doing him a favor by trying to help.
I appreciate much the links to download win 7. I mentioned the constant restarting tho.

So are you trying to stop Recovery from restarting so you can boot into the OS, or you want to force Recovery to run?

Can you boot into the OS at all? Try moving the Partition Marked Active to the 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred if you have it) or Windows 7 partition then run a few Startup Repairs from F8 System Recovery Options.

If you want to force Recovery to run try moving Active flag to Recovery partition and reboot.

The blue links are tutorials showing how to do these.

I run the recovery from hitting F9 during start up. After the first restart it loads saying first time use then the recovery seems to overlay on screen an image saying its still recovering don't touch. Then it does stuff. Then restarts again. Then loads an asus screen saying configuring stuff. Then it restarts back to a first time use then restarts to a configuring screen then just keeps restarting alternating between those 2 screens.

Sometimes the desktop loads with some window open about clean up something that doesn't have anything to do with windows but its like an Oem tool or something. You can click stuff and tell it to do something. But it's weird and don't seem normal. If you don't touch anything the computer just restarts again still in recovery restart loop. Also the desktop loads once with only a few desktop items and not in default good looking correct screen res so icons are ugly and big. Then it sometimes restarts with the default correct resolution. It just alternates these screens in a restart loop.

I just would like to know what's wrong and if possible to fix. Since this happens on all 3 recovery options I'm thinking its a defective laptop. Meaning the recovery doesn't work. And I have 4 recovery DVDs best buy geek squad made but it don't boot off the first disc. So geek squad screwed up.

I love the download win 7 and am extremely grateful to the two people who mentioned it. My guess is that's the only fix. I don't know if there's a serial number on the bottom of lappy. I have to look. I just am for now trying to figure out what's going on and a possible fix.

Edit. The download link don't download. One said failed and the other is extremely slow. X64 and x86 home premium.

The links are good. I've downloaded from them dozens of times.

Try again, maybe later at night and let it run overnight? With less contention it may download okay. Maybe even download after booting to Safe Mode with Networking.

Thanks. I got x32 ok finally. Installing now. I left the recovery partition alone. I deleted the other one and installing to it now.

Recovery partition is disc 0 partition 0 primary.
Installing on the unalocated partition now.

Not sure about the recovery partition being primary.

Well there's no built in hardware drivers so this is useless. Recovery is the only way to go it seems. Except that doesn't work.

This isn't a dell but its Asus. Also it doesn't do much good since this laptop has no network drivers built into the windows 7 DVD. So no network connection. And getting drivers on here from another computer is a major hassle :(

Why is it a hassle? Download to a flash drive, plug in to laptop and install.

I don't have a flash drive. I do have an external 500 gb drive in another room connected to the network on my router and maybe some cdrw or something. I just think this is a hassle. I also have to find the drivers for the lappy.

Edit.
Thanks much for the link.
If I get this working can I create a recovery partition and recovery DVD for free? No money.

Another Edit.
Got wifi drivers installed. Used a dvdr. Now will try to get needed drivers. But can I make a recovery DVD/partition and put the drivers into the windows 7 install DVD?

And truly thank you all so much.

You can put the downloaded drivers anywhere you want, but you can`t just add them to the install dvd.

Put them on a cd.

An email from who ?

Ya you can slipstream, if you know what you`re doing.

Just as easy to create a disk image and store it on dvd`s, but that costs money too.

The simplest and cheapest way is to create a partition on the laptop and store the disk image there, this is done after the pc is fully updated, programs installed, all drivers installed etc.

I get emails from the site when I get responses. You asked about my cousin ordering recovery discs. But that wasn't in your post here so I just wondered.

I would like to have a recovery partition but can't spend money. If I could get the hardware drivers and slip them into the windows 7 install DVD I would but don't know how.

That`s because I edited my post.

Just put the drivers on a cd, the only one he needs is the network drivers to get online, he can get the rest from the Asus website, and windows update.
