Solved Asus VE278Q monitor

Could use some help.

I have spent hours looking for drivers for this monitor on the Asus site with absolutely no luck.
I have check many other sites with no luck also.
All the Asus site shows are drivers for Windows 8 but not Windows 7.

Malwarebytes blocks many of the non Asus sites.
If I can I would like to have drivers with out installing Java first.

Thanks for looking. I tried that and the best I can tell that download is not a driver.
Tried it and it's not compatible with my system.

As far as I can work out it should be plug 'n play. Brink seems to report that it can depend upon what cables/ connectors are used.

I took a look and download the tool suggested in Brinks post.
It tell me to send money or no dice.

It's a little difficult to remove the garbage that came with the probram, but I'm getting good at being a garbage specialist.

Obviously the monitor runs well with Windows 7 drivers, plug and play but I was hoping I could find a designated driver from Asus.

I have used Display port and now I'm using HDMI but with Windows drivers I can't tell the difference.

I believe Steve has that exact monitor
I have and so does Ladyfit's it's little brother 24"
I can't remember if the monitor came with a software disk or not

I have not tried the display ports yet I don't have any cables
DVI seems fine :/

That's not a driver. It's "Microsoft Certification" that Brink mentioned. I don't actually know what that means!

I`ve never worried about any driver for the monitor, if there was something out there, windows update usually found it.

No I really don't have a problem using the generic Windows 7 driver.
I was just wanting to see if I could find a Asus driver and give it a try.

I picked up a bunch of PUP's looking for the driver. Malwarebytes took care of them in a short time.
No I didn't knowingly giver permission for any of the PUP's, they just sneaked in.

That setup file is more then just a Windows Certification file. It's installing a color profile (a .icm file) for an ASUS monitor. A Windows cert file is provided so that driver is digitally signed. Otherwise Windows would block installation.

That said, I don't know how much difference the generic vs. specific color profile makes

Right click on the Monitor in Device Manager->Properties. Select Details tab. Use the pull down menu to report both the Hardware Ids and the Compatible Ids for that device. You should be able to copy/paste both back into next both

On first glance, yea, that hardware Id pulls up a lot of potential bogies and PUPs. Probably take a bit to sort through and see if anything legit

Good news!

I found a driver file. It was listed for Win 8 but believe it should also work for Win 7. But when I looked at the setup file for the driver, something else hit me! (Which is true for this driver file as well as the one posted by Callender).

Both of these driver files are installing a color profile along with monitor.sys - monitor.sys is the Windows generic driver.

Meaning even AFTER the driver file runs, I think you'll still see the monitor listed as Generic using the Microsoft driver.

Your ASUS monitor uses the Windows generic driver. It's the custom color profile that's installed! So the thing we really need check is if the monitor's color profile is installed and assigned to your monitor. I believe the profile file name will appear ASUS VE278.icm

fyi. Here's a good general guide I found to how to check and assign a color profile to your device. (I honestly haven't done much with color profiles before but looks relatively straight forward). All done using CtlPnl->Color Management

If you browse Color Management and your profile isn't there, instead of installing by hand: Download the driver file i put on drop box HERE and unzip to your Desktop. (original from driverscollection but can't provide direct link) Right click the device, select Update Driver and point to the folder on your Desktop.

Thanks ComputerGeek. That was a lot of work you have done.

I really will have to think on doing such a thing because I'm not having a color problem as far as I can see.
I really don't want to install any drivers not designed for Windows 7.
I really don't know the difference between a Windows 8 and a Windows 7 driver but their must be something or Windows 7 would also be listed.

I guess I will just leave things alone because things work great and I guess I was looking for something that isn't there. If we could of found a exact driver from Asus I would of gave it a run for the money.

Thanks for understanding.
Their are many adjustment one can make using the owners manual. I made them a long time ago and I do like it the way the monitor is now.
