PC Monitor LCD desktop options

I just came in here to see if there is any advice on alternate stands for an LCD monitor 21 to 27 inches. I'm looking at one which is inexpensive from HP and the comments are favorable and features with low glare screen fit my need.

But it is a stand mount.

I have seen one easel- type stand which would add $77 to cost. I can likely make one from scrap wood
and a few screws or dowel joints. Has anyone got any lead on such a DIY. Also important are there any cautions about handling the screen or voiding warrantees?
