[Asus VS197DE] No driver, and DevManager says "Generic PnP Monitor"

Hello

I just bought this monitor today.

I'm disappointed that it's a 16/9 while I was used to a 4/3, but I could live with it if only the screen was legible, which it barely is*.

I don't know if could explain that issue, but Device Manager only detects it as a "Generic PnP Monitor", and no driver is available on the Asus website:

Does someone know what I could try?

Thanks, it's better, although I'm surprised Asus doesn't provide drivers.

And I'll pay attention next time *not* to buy a 16/9 monitor: It's probably OK to watch movies, but NOK to work on documents.

Widescreen monitors are good, don't bash them because you are experiencing a problem And you can get them to run in portrait too if your monitor stand does support it (or use 3rd party stand, wall-mount).

I wish I knew how to actually make your monitor recognized, maybe someone else will help.

My monitor is listed as a Generic PnP Monitor, you'll probably find most people's are. Monitors for the most part should just be plug and play, if your resolution is not right you need to adjust it through your graphics card settings. After lowering resolution to 1280x768, it's more readable, but 1) even with Brightness down to 0, it's still too bright and 2) the colors are whitewashed :-/

And there's nothing I can do about the 16/9 image ratio: That screen is just much smaller in height than my previous, 4/3 monitor.

Comments from users say that it's just a bad product. I should have googled before getting one.

Run the display in its native resolution, 1920x1080. If text is too small either zoom in or adjust dpi.
The brightness maybe gamma set up wrong in GPU drivers (catalyst cc for AMD or Nvidia CC, idk what Intel call it) or a custom color profile for your old monitor perhaps?

I remember feeling the same regarding vertical lost space but that fades when you get used to it.

Edit: just checked VS197DE and it is 4:3 with 1366x768 resolution. Is this your old monitor or new one? Maybe you are setting an unsupported resolution.
