What is generic pnp monitor

I have a HPE-500f pc hooked up to my vizio V551XVT and all that comes up is generic pnp monitor, is that the correct setting and if not how do I change it

My 27" Hyundia LCD TV/Monitor had the same issue. The answer is yes and no. W7 will assign a generic driver to operate the monitor and it will work ......as well as it works. In my case and likely your's when I went to Hyundia's site there wasn't any specific driver support for my monitor/TV. You should go and investigate Vizio's support site and see if a specific W7 driver is listed and if so then download and install. Good luck.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

A generic driver just means that Windows 7 has installed one of its drivers and the component should work fine, although with perhaps not as much functionality as the manufacturer's own drivers.

If you're concerned, just go to the manufacturer's support site for your region and see if there are any drivers that you can download and install.

I went to my monitor updates and there was an update so I loaded it in and it completely messed up the picture quality on both the computer and my TV even when I'm not on the computer, I mean real bad. S I went back a few days and reset everything, it's better but not even close any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

I had to dump my TV for a high res. true computer monitor and I've never been happier. Long story but a history of BSOD's which had me change out everything.....and I mean everything searching for the issue turned out to be the monitor. This likely will be an expensive proposition but I think saving for (2-3) 22" -27" LED's would be the best solution. IMHO.......

Sorry people that I haven't got back but I just came back from camping in the lake tahoe area, make a long story short my system appears to be working fine now, don't know why but it is. I think I'll take the advise and use another monitor for my computer, I do appreciate the help.

I'm not sure what function the monitor driver performs. Samsung has MagicTune for monitor control of some of their monitors but it's a separate program.

One thing that can get changed is the icc/icm profile setting when using the manufacturers' "drivers". My Samsung profile is terrible but my Dell is fine. When in doubt as with my Samsung I use the default sRGB IEC61966-2.1 which the Windows default.
