Hey guys, I have the above-listed wireless card on my laptop. Up until the past two days, it was working fine, but now it disconnects from my school network numerous times (almost every five minutes). It'll say it can't find any networks. I even system restored to yesterday, and it's still giving me problems. I'm trying to uninstall updates that Microsoft may have installed to solve the problems, but its not working. Is there anything else I can do?

Moreover, can the card detect 802.11a networks or no?

The driver is updated and I already created the profile. Could it possibly be Microsoft updates messing with the system?

My HP laptop which has the same wi-fi card was updated last week from the HP site with driver version 9.2.0.310 dated February of this year. You might want to check if you have this. I have had no problems with it but it may be the cause or the solution.

I just looked it up and am downloading it. I haven't been able to go over 70 kbps for the download, I was hitting 1 mbps a couple of days ago while downloading the Windows ISO. Hopefully this will help. If not, should I just try and get a new wireless card?

I hope it will help also, but then I had no problems with the previous version either. I am not an expert on wireless or networking either and your problems may lie elsewhere. Are you able to maintain connection via an ethernet cable for example?

Maybe someone with more experience in these areas can help you.

Hey again, I recently moved in to a new place and the internet was working well. However, I mistakenly installed the Windows Updates and now I am having the same problems with the wireless card. It connects but the speeds are obnoxiously slow when compared to the ones I was experiencing a few days ago. Moreover, the speeds fluctuate, I'll reach 1.9 mbps sitting in a particular position but then it will dip down to 2 kbps. I only experience speeds over 200 kbps on one spot on my couch (literally one spot). I have no idea what to do. I updated the drivers with the same results (although it worked last time when I had the problem). I tried a bunch of different releases of drivers as well from an Atheros forum, and they all yield the same results. I've factory restored my computer twice, and again, experiencing the same results.

Any idea on what I could do?

Hi Scouser.

As I said in my last post I am no expert in this area. I think you may do better to start a new thread as this may be picked up by someone else more quickly.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks, I'm hoping someone else just picks up this thread rather than me clouding up this forum :)

it is possible for software such as your Antivirus to cause problems and or drivers ?

what AV do you have installed and what happens if you update or rollback the driver and the windows updates ?

to check signal strength in case you have a bad router or inteference or the arial in your laptop is damaged dowload and run Xirrus Wifi inspector :geek:

let us know how it goes ?

I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials and I've always used that. Everything seems good on the tests, so I have honestly no idea what's wrong.

MSE is yet to cause a problem with wifi in my experience so we can dismiss that for now.

with the test results from xirrus where you at home or school and what where the other access points ?

-74db is not a great signal strength and from approximately 6-10 metres you should be showing more like -30-40db ?

you are sharing a channel (frequency) with another access point so if this at home as i suspect why not try changing the broadcast channel on your router to 3 ?

your router access page should be htt*://192.168.0.1
