Hello new to these forums and having a strange problem with the ati overdrive feature on all versions of ati catalyst drivers,The system is win7 home edition ,core 2 duo 8500 running at 4gb, asus p5e mb, 8gbs ddr2 ram, and ati 4890 grapic card and HP L2475 W screen. the graphic card works well but when ever I try to use auto tune in the catalyst control centre it seems to crash the system ,ie the screen goes blank ,but the hard drive usage indicator on the tower shows a lot of activity ,it seems to take forever and i end up getting fed up waiting and press the reset button and rebooting the system ,so has any body ever used the ATI auto tune feature ,? with any success many thanks for any help or info given peter

Sounds like a power supply issue; however, looking at your specs, 650W should be sufficient.

(I had a Radeon 3870 where I would use the auto-tune function and it would crash with a 500W psu.)

Update

I have been looking at the cards details with GPU_Z and have found that it reports that bus interface PCI-e is capable of running PCI express x16 v2 but is in fact running PCI-e x16 v1.1 ,anybody know what this means and can I change /set to v2 ,with regard to psu it is regarded highly and I have not read a bad review but cannot find where i have placed the spec sheet ,many thanks to all that have replied peter

so has any body ever used the ATI auto tune feature

I tried it a while ago to see what it would do (can't remember the Catalyst version) but it set the clock speeds to a ridiculously high and unstable settings.

Best advice, don't use it. You are much better off sticking with ATI overdrives manual feature to set your clock speeds, or use else 3rd party tools.

I have been looking at the cards details with GPU_Z and have found that it reports that bus interface PCI-e is capable of running PCI express x16 v2 but is in fact running PCI-e x16 v1.1

That's actually normal.

It reports it @ v1.1 when the 2D/3D clock speed is in the cards 'idle' state. You can 'catch it' running @ 2.0 if you open the sensor tab and then quickly switch back the first page.
