ATI card with Nvidia software

Hello,

When I installed my Windows 7 x64 system I had a Nvidia card: Geforce GTS 250, if I remember correctly, with it I used the Nvidia drivers obviously. Later, it died (typical :p).

Now, I use an ATI card. Recently when I checked the control panel I noticed that I still have: "Nvidia PhysX (32-bit)" there.

I un-installed all of my Nvidia drivers when I changed card. I wonder, is it something my ATI card also uses or is it a leftover? I just want to be sure, so I don't mess up anything.

Hello Tpiom,

This should'nt cause any issue really as physix belongs to Nvidia respectively.

If you want ot completely remove the driver then download and install this

Driver Sweeper

Install the program like normal. Once done, go Start - in the search bar type MSCONFIG and open it up, go to boot.ini tab and choose safe boot (Minimal), click apply and reboot your PC.

Once booted in to safe mode, run the driver sweeper and put a check mark next to Nvidia, ensuring that is the only thing checked and the other two are not checked (one will be for ATI drivers, obviously you don't want that checked) and then click uninstall.

Once done unsinstalled, go to start again (whilst in safe boot mode still) and once again go to MSconfig and uncheck safe boot and then reboot.

This should then get rid of the physix drivers.

But they wont cause a problem as ATI does'nt use physix, they use their own i should think.

Come back if you need anymore help.

Lucky

Your ATI card use it, no. It is needed though by most games that support it, and gets installed by those that do when Physx (not to be confused with physics). When a Nvidia card is used depending on the game Physx is run on the video card (, when an ATI card is used Physx is run on the CPU. Here is a list of the games that support Physx on the GPU,

PhysX Games List

and the complete list (includes both PC and console games),

PhysX Games List

If you have any of those games, leave it alone or the game either won't work properly or won't run at all.

Hi,

I don't know if you use 3dmarkvantage but as far as I know it needs Nvidia PhysX installed to work properly even if you have a ATI card installed.
