I have Asus 4550 video card
The drivers are crashing in MCE very frequently ( Black screen and then BSOD and instant reboot so I can't even read the error) I tried driver that was optional in W7 update, Catalyst 8.12, 9.1 and W7 beta - they all behave the same way

Any ideas ?

Thanks

When I first installed Win7 on my wife's HTPC which has an ATI X1400, the Win7 optional update was not available. I searched around the Internet and came up with six ATI driver sets that might work. ATI does not directly support the X1400 because it's supposed to be a video controller for a laptop and they want the laptop maker to support it. In my case, this is not a laptop, but a Shuttle X100 mini-PC. It's not a net-PC, just a rather small PC the size of a hardbound book. Shuttle did have a version of Catalyst for XP, however, it didn't work well in Win7. I tried most of the others I found and the results were poor. When that Microsoft optional ATI driver came out, I tried it and it worked very well.

In your case, try searching around as I did for different versions of Catalyst and see if you can find one Win7 likes.

In the end, I had to blow away the Win7 installation and install fresh, only installing the optional ATI driver for Win7. Then the system worked very well. What also helped was excluding the RecordedTV Library from the virus scanner.

Bye.
