ATI Driver won't install!

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop and I installed Windows 7 Build 7100 on it.

However, Open GL games do not work, and I have the ATI 8.56 graphics driver installed and I am trying to upgrade it to the latest 8.61. However, after I run the installer, my screen does not blink and once installation is complete, I do not see a change in the driver version - and catalyst is not installed as well.

However, when i am trying to re-install it says the drivers are already installed.

Any ideas as to whats going wrong? Its a 32-bit OS.

I cannot run any OpenGL games, they fail saying it could not load OpenGL.

Hi Aaron Welcome to the Forum.

Try using this to make sure that the old driver is removed before trying to install the new one;

ATi Driver Update

Just want to second what Pooch said and pass along my experiences for future reference. ATi cautions that legacy drivers be removed before updates are performed. However, in my experience, I find I have fewer gfx issues if I first remove any driver (legacy or newer) before upgrading.

And just to add my $.02, it's always advisable to get the graphics drivers from the manufacturer of your laptop. They often do some special tweaks to optimize the hardware, and the normally available driver pack from ATI won't work always properly, if it installs at all.

That might be part of the problem that you're having.

Without intending to slobber, outstanding point Mellon Head. Many do not appreciate that lappy mfrs have so tweaked the BIOS as to create issues (by design or otherwise) if one goes outside the family for drivers and patches (which is just one reason why BIOS modding is so popular).
