You have to use the drivers provided by your laptop manufacturer with the mobility series cards.

the drivers are working fine....the windows update automatically downloads the drivers for graphic card....but the catalyst driver doesnt works properly...the laptop manufacturer only provides drivers(which is working fine)..but the ati catalyst doesnt work....(is there any advantage of using ati catalyst manger??)..

Not really. You can use whatever manager you prefer and they'll all work just fine.

Use the drivers found here: ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

I had an Acer notebook that was pre-installed with Vista too. It also had the Catalyst Install Manager... My though on it was it didn't work. Going to AMD's website to download the latest driver package works best. And, you won't have anything to worry about upgrading past the 10.4 driver.

the mobility driver seems to ruin performance....

What performance are you expecting and what are you seeing? That Acer laptop/notebook is not a gaming laptop/notebook... Are you trying to run games at their highest resolutions or at the native resolution of your display, which I'm assuming is 1280x800? You might need to adjust the resolution from within the game to get the performance you're looking for.

If Catalyst is messing up your performance, then only download the display driver.

Also, re-reading your original post, the Catalyst suite that is for your PC is at the link already provided above.

Well, that seems to be a bit of a problem right there... You state that you have Mobility Radeon HD2400XT... mobility as in mobile--mobile as in a mobile PC--your notebook! You can't install the desktop version of Catalyst. If you would have followed the link I provided in an earlier post, it was to the Mobility Radeon driver download page for the 10.4 version.

If you are running games at 640x480 and are not getting playable framerates (I don't know why you wouldn't) then try adjusting the 3D properties from within Catalyst to "Performance." If you are running the games at the native resolution of the display, 1280x800, then again, adjust the 3D properties from within Catalyst for "Performance," and try adjusting the resolution from within the game from the native display resolution to a lower resolution like 800x600 or 640x480.

I don't know much more to input... If you're having that much trouble using Catalyst, then I'd suggest not to use it because there seems to be a "somewhat" generic ATi, Microsoft supplied, display driver minus Catalyst Control Center. But, I'll ask again: What performance are you seeing and what are you expecting? Do you have a application to measure framerates or are the games just so stuttering that you can obviously see that something's wrong?

Lastly, the only other option for you would be to go to Acer's website and download the driver for your specific model. I've checked and the driver name is VGA_ATI_8.477_Vistax86.zip--It may work for you in compatibility mode... you'll have to try and see. (There are no Acer drivers in the drop down menu selection for Window 7 Pro 32-bit)

Good Luck!

EDIT: Important: You are uninstalling the previous driver package before attempting to install the new packages you've tried, right?
