ATI HDMI audio is disabling onboard audio

Just got a Asus rampage iv extreme mb and not that I have everything setup I connected it to my tv. However the HDMI audio on my 5770 is disabling my onboard audio which is realtek (ALC898).

How do I fixs this? I have tried diabling it under audio settings and disabling the driver with no luck.

hows your video connected? I'm guessing through HDMI or you using a vga,dvi or display port instead>? Are you trying to get audio through regular speakers? I ask if your video is connected through HDMI because that could be the cause because the video and sound both go through the HDMI cord and should project sound through the tv if it's connected through the HDMI.

I am connected using a HDMI cable. If I disable the driver and restart when the login screen comes up the onboard audio works just long engough for a matter of seconds and then nothing. If I plug in cheep speakers it work fine. I think it is a driver conflict.

I am trying to use the TV speakers. The onboard supports higher qulity audio.

Try seeing if enableing "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix"helps. Open up recording devices by right clicking on the speaker on the windows bar and in the tab recording right click in the empty space and select show disabled devices and enable "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix", i'm thinking this might maybe do it but I can be wrong anyways a bullet shot in the dark but doesn't hurt to try.

Hmm not to sure what to say since I haven't had much experience with HDMI since i have only used vga and dvi but have you tried connecting it as if it were regular speakers? I say for now just use the HDMI audio because i'm not absolutely sure,all I can say is to try connecting the tv with some adapter through the audio jack from the back of the mobo to the audio jack on the tv. Pretty sure there should be one since my living room one has one and i use a vga with a audio jack combo to connect with my other computer that my folks use but you can get something like a double sided audio jack and use that for your audio and it could possibly work.

That is how I have it now. I have a audio cable 3.5mm running into the TV as I have had for many years. However the HDMI audio seems to be taking president over the onboard audio.

Ye I believe the HDMI is forbidding the audio anyways I think your going to have to use the HDMI audio but i'm sure it's possible to undo it and use the audio through the jack though i'm not sure how to since you said disabling hdmi audio and enabling the audio jacks audio doesn't seem to work. Sorry I couldn't help, hopefully someone else can help about that but I don't have another idea on what to do unfortunately expect use something else besides hdmi that doesn't use the audio like dvi but then that would probably not display hd display like the hdmi would. Wish I could help more.

Have you tried disabling HDMI in Device Manager?

It seems like you are trying to disable it in Sound / Playback Devices ???

Yep, tried disabling the HDMI audio driver. Still no dice.
