Hello!

I installed windows 7 on my Dell studio 1535 yesterday, however I can't get the proper resolution for my samsung 23" monitor.

On Vista I had my 23 inch monitor hooked up to my laptop via DVI port and in Catalyst I'd turn off the main laptop screen, only using the 23' samsung for main. Now that I've installed windows 7 I can't run the 1920x1280 (the largest) resolution on my big screen, the maximum for it is 1280x768... I'm suspecting the driver isn't working well with Windows 7, and I've already downloaded 10.3 ATI drivers and they don't solve the problem either.

Basically I want to run the big resolution 1920x1280 on my screen. Please help me, it's very frustrating  my video card is ATI Radeon 3400 HD.

Thank you in advance guys...

Just a few tips, probably not going to fix your problems:

You have make the lcd monitor your one and only monitor to properly set your resolution. Also, make sure you're setting the resolution through the catalyst control panel and not the windows settings.

Make sure you downloaded the proper drivers. (Either 32 or 64 bit, PCIe or AGP, etc)

You can force your computer to display all modes, not just the compatible ones via

Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Display > Adjust Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings > Monitor Tab > Uncheck Hide Modes that this monitor cannot display

   Warning
Note: The process above could possibly harm your monitor.

Thanks for your reply!

I can't set up the monitor as one and only one in catalist, it just won't let me.

And the setting where I force my computer to display all modes were already unchecked.

Please tell me more

You can always try and older version of the drivers.

wow, it's hard to believe but I fixed it myself. I thought I was gonna have to put vista on again.

Anyway, I'm not sure how I did it - but I went to "Change resolution" in windows - and selected monitors. After that I changed the the 16 bit to 32 bits and clicked ok. After that something clicked and monitor started showing badass 1920x1080 resolution!

.... amazing.

It's in CLONE mode. With this mode the driver matches both screen resolutions. For different resolutions on the main monitor you need Extended Desktop.

I also noticed that the driver installed isn't 10.3, it's the Microsoft Windows Update driver. You may have tried to install the Desktop version of 10.3.

ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver - Win7 32bit
ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver - Win7 64bit

Download, install and run the Utility linked above. This is ATI Mobility Catalyst Verification Utility. It verifies if your laptop is supported then downloads the appropriate driver.

Another note. Often laptops have special function keys which can turn the laptop screen off and switch to the Monitor, so it's the main display and not extended from the Laptop screen.
