Hi all,

Looking to get this and, after some research, have realised my PSU won't be able to supprot it. Can anyone suggest a good and reliable PSU? I'm assuming I'll need at least 450W from what I've read, with a 6-pin connector for the card.

Any suggestion or pointers welcome!

Here you go: Official XS Power Supply Ranking Phase I - XtremeSystems Forums Stick to any of the choices from Tiers 1 and 2 and you're good to go.

What you're looking for is high amperage on the +12 volt rail. For graphics cards, and the rest of your system for that matter, overall wattage doesn't really matter. Sure, you need enough to power the rig, but GPU's need amps, not watts.

Hi Fumz,

that's really appreciated, I'm learning a fair bit and a lot of the jargon baffles me a bit!! I'll have a look at the units from tiers 1 and 2.

thanks!

Using PSU "Coolmax CUG-950W" with XFX 5770 for over a year. No problems at all and enough power for future add ons.

I would not rely on that if I were you. AMD certifies only 2 4850's, even for the 1000 watt model. Sure, a 5770 draws fewer amps than 2 4850's, but by no means does this make that PSU "future proof"... because they all draw relatively low amounts.

A bad PSU can not only go out, but take a few of your other parts with it. Getting a really good a good PSU is more than worth it... and the price difference between good ones and bad ones really isn't that different.
