Hello,

having recently upgraded to win7, i have yet to get my tv working off of my hd 2600xt radeon card.
it is conected via the composite port on the card, and plumbed into the scart of my sony wega.
this setup has worked for years with xp with no problems, and as i still have xp installed on another hdd, it still works.
it does not work with win 7 tho, even after setting up the latest drivers from ati and installing the latest CCC. as far as i can tell, i have set it up like in xp, but i cant get more than a brief flicker on the telly. i have tried changing refresh rates- no dice.

is there something i am missing with win7 that i didn't need to do with xp?

Is windows 7 compatible with your card?

I ran the compatability checker first, and all it said was that I'd have to get a newer version of ati ccc to get it to work. It is an old card, but everything else seems to be ok with the card, just the dual monitor issue. The xp version I use is 8.1, and win7 wants 10.x, but it's not recognising the tv as easily as 8.1. Am gonna try using older versions of ccc...

Try the older ones, lets see how that goes.

i have managed to intsall the vista 32 version of ccc 8.10, and now the tv is recieving something (an improvement!)- the tv doesn't display the channel number anymore- but i cant change the refresh rate from 25hz to 60hz as win7 doesn't recognise that it is cabable of higher, and 60hz is to slow for me telly!!! ( i remember having a refresh issue with xp, but changing to 60hz sorted it...)

any ideas how to force the refresh rate in windows? CCC recognises it as 60hz capable, but windows wont let me allow anything other than 25hz in the 'list modes' for the tv (Generic non-pnp monitor), in the adv settings of screen resolution....

update: just tried the 9.12 version, same issue. win7 doesn't seem to want to let it recieve 60hz, so i cant rule this out as to why tv is blank...

ok i've tried up to 10.5 version of ccc, but i cant get it to install 10.5 any more because the install fails, and it wont install any version now. there is a piece of ccc still in my system and i cant seem to find it with regpro or regedit. its preventing any future install, and the ati faqs i've found so far aren't helping. (hey guys do ya think i didn't try the unistall program first?!!!)

as to my original issue, it seems that win7 requires a driver for the telly, something that xp didn't- it just said 'a telly? sure why not!' - and as there is no such thing for an ageing wega crt (which sony seem to deny ever existed) win7 uses the default monitor driver, and lists it as a 'generic non-pnp monitor' instead. As a result it is not sending the right info for a crt and hence the blank screen (its sending something, but the telly interprets it as 'display black screen').
i did try to make an edid for it, but lack enough info/experience to make it work, and i tried to make an .inf file too with no joy on that (same issue).

So it seems that now i need:
1. another way of removing all the ati crap stuck in the registry
2. someone who knows how to write/edit an edid or .inf file to convince win7 that is a crt tv not a monitor
and/or 3. other ideas about how to get my second display working!!!

it seems incredible that win7 would have so much difficulty in doing something that xp found so easy! Progress, eh!
