ATI theater mode not working

I've already tried this every which way. MPC and MPC-Home Cinema, neither work. And I've tried every driver available for my vid card. Thanks for the reply though.

So, you tried Overlay Mixer, didn't you? And which Catalyst(s)? If you need to download old ones, you can find them at this page.

Theatre mode working but not like XP

I am currently using theatre mode with Windows 7 and my ATI video card.

The way I am doing it is with VLC player with the video output selected as "directx out" then make sure wallpaper overlay is on.

Also make sure CCC is set for theatre mode.

The background will be the movie on both monitors however the secondary monitor will have only the video.( not the icons or taskbar)

Also, this process does not work with Windows Aero so when you run a file Aero will automatically disable itself until the program is closed then re-enable itself.

Thank you for posting your solution. You registered to sevenforums for this post, I see!

However, this is not truly a "theater mode", but wallpaper overlay, as you say.
Your solution is interesting, but is not totally fine for me because I want to use a single monitor, so that my mouse cannot go away from the screen, for example. This is achieved when selecting "Clone mode".

I'm still wondering, however I really appreciate your help.

Clarification

Just for clarification my TV is in the other room and connects through 50' HDMI cable to my computer in the other room. I am using one monitor for my desktop and cloning it for my larger display.

I am new to the forums but found information very useful on this site.

jgraham11 thank you for your information, it was exactly what i needed to have theater mode work on my TV in the other room. Only thing different, which i like is when i set VLC (which i have used all the time anyway) to directx output and set to wall paper, is that both displays play the video on the wall paper. I have a ati xfx 4870 card if that makes a difference.

This was the only downfall for me moving to windows 7 from windows xp, but now it is fixed. thanks again.

What guage of wire is the cable

It should be at least 3/4" in diameter and fully shielded.

Uhm... Are you sure you've read what jgraham11 said? He has no problems, so why bother about gauge of wire?

I don't really think that as called for as a thicker guage wire will provide better video quality.

Please, let me repeat again: he has NO PROBLEMS. So why bothering about his wire?

It must be me, but - once again - I cannot understand what\why you say.

As a worker for an audio-video installation company, I think I know a little bit.

This conversation is ended.

The HDMI cable I used is:
Atlona ATF14031WL-15 50ft Flat HDMI Cable - White

This cable is meant to be run through the wall however I do remember the price being about $150, I just saw it listed at $210.

If the ATI card is DVI out only you'll need an ATI DVI to HDMI adapter or else you won't get the audio (wired differently than the standard DVI to HDMI adpater)

jgraham11 I have one question for you since i am now using the wallpaper mode in VLC and directx video output. I noticed that the video does not seem to hold the proper aspect ratio on my TV, but rather full screens it. on the computer it is wide screen.

I have the ati 4870 with the latest CCC software. on the same tab as the theatre mode option i have selected match source video for aspect ratio.

I am not sure you can help me with this, or if others may have come across this.

thanks,

Ryan

VLC Workaround

I'm having exactly the same problem, the theater mode overlay just won't work. I tried the VLC wallpaper workaround and it works perfectly.

But then I thought, does it have to be wallpaper?

So I turned off the wallpaper mode check box and just left the video output setting to Dirextx with all my other theater mode setting the way they should be under CCC

and behold! It actually works the way it's supposed to.

Only problem, you have to use VLC... oh well, thank god it supports a large variety of formats!

Just thought this might help some people.

D3DFullScreen mode

Hi

I think that VLC uses no overlay but Direct3D to render which method is capable by plenty of other players.

All you need is:
1. In the Windows : deactivate 'Aero' (MPCHC do it automatically for you)
2. In a player :
a) switch renderer to EVR (Custom Presenter) or MadVR
b) switch mode to 3DFullscreen
c) select second monitor as output

But, on Windows 7 RC (or that was Vista?..), HD3850 and very old CCC (in 2008) I think i had DVBViewer Pro to work on my secondary display but via DirectX 7 renderer only (Aero left automatic off)

This is not that old overlay, so this method is irrelevant to ATI's "theater mode" of cause just because it works without any "theater mode" without any ATI --> on nVidia GeForce too :geek:

p.s.: one more thing: you may need to instal (and select as 'audio renderer') ReClock DirectShow Filter in order to have all smooth
