ATI X1600 drivers

Hi,

I'm not the most technical person in the world so you'll have to bear with me.

I've recently upgraded my desktop PC from XP to Windows 7. I have an ATI radeon x1600 card which always worked fine. Whenever I try to load and run games, everything works ok for about 5 mins. After that, the screen flickers about 5 times over the course of a minute. It then completely dies giving me the bsod and giving me the error:

'Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed'

It also mentions something about atikmdag.sys.

I've done a google search on the issue and I keep reading something about a 'Mobility Modder', however my understanding is this is for laptops only? Can somebody shed some light on this and if possible, help me sort this out?

Its for laptops or integration on a motherboard desktop. Try uninstalling the drivers, sweep it, and reinstall the drivers for x1xxx from amd.

He is getting blue screens, it could be more then just reinstalling the graphic card drivers.

But its the driver that controls the gfx card thats causing the crash.

Slicer64, welcome to the forums.

Would help to know which Catalyst version you are running, as there is not now and never will be any Windows 7 driver for that card (or any other ATI card below the HD 2xxx series of cards). The best you can get is to use the Vista Legacy driver,

ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver

which should work just fine on that card. I know it works without any problems on my older system that has the bigger brother of your card (x1950 Pro).
