Both in attempting to install and older program (which appears to install) and
then executing that program --which does NOT run --
the screen clears to black -- waits a bit -- and then get an error dialog box.
Never seen this occur before.

ASUS MOBO Issues never resolved even by ASUS:
1) MOBO will NOT boot from other than the Default HDD drive.
2) MOBO will NOT boot Most DOS based CDs

You might consider installing the OS the program was originally designed for (such as a dual boot Windows XP,) or perhaps other solutions might be running them in a virtual machine (see another excellent tutorial by Brink Windows XP Mode - Install and Setup... and if you are really lucky, some of them might work by simply right-clicking the .exe icon and selecting to run them in compatibility mode (maybe win XP sp3.)
