audio breaks up/stops while typing

I don't know if this should go under audio, but when I type or hold down a button on my keyboard, my music that I'm listening through my headphones slows down or stops. Any ideas on how to fix this or why this is happening?

Give as many details as possible on your hardware: Laptop? Desktop? CPU, motherboard, RAM? Wired keyboard? Built in keyboard as on a laptop? Your "system specs" at the lower left of your posts give no detail beyond OS 64 bit.

When did this start happening?

Are you familiar with Windows Task Manager?

I noticed it started happening today. I have a laptop; dell 15r. 6gb of ram, and a i5 2nd gen. 2.3ghz. intel. windows 7. sp1.

In Task Manager and Resource Monitor, I'd start looking at stuff like this when the music slows or stops:

Processes running for all users: how many? Which are occupying the CPU?

RAM: details on what is shown in memory tab of Resource Monitor when slow? how much used, available, cached, reserved, etc.

I'd also take a look at what is running on startup by default by using msconfig.

And I'd do a full malware and virus scan.

Have you knowingly made any configuration changes or added any software/hardware?

If it's a new development that was not there yesterday, something must have changed. Unless it's imagination.
