After a recent rebuild, new motherboard Biostar A785GE, my dvd/cd burner will play an audio cd and you can see the ribbon at the bottom showing it to be playing in WMP, but no sound to speakers. MY hardrive is attached to the motherboard via SATA. My DVD/CD burner-player is attached to the motherboard via IDE cable.

Online audios play ok. But not factory new audio cds.
I've read and read and have tried many suggestions :uninstalled Realtek re-installed, downloaded and reinstalled Biostar audio driver, changed playback devices form digital to speakers etc. Replaced Dvd/cd-burner .....same thing...no sound.

At wits end, please help!
Thank You!

It might be a codec issue. Have a look here.

Hi

Welcome to Seven Forums:)
Jumper settings for the burner installed correctly?
Is it the only IDE device connected to your board?

Have a look at this KB-article from MS - No Sound Playing an Audio CD in Analog Mode on USB Speakers and also this article - No sound in Windows
Regards

Hi Lomai,
And I Thank all of you for your replys!
Jumper set to master on dvd-cd-burner. Hooked up to the motherboard via IDE cable.( the motherboard only has one IDE cable slot). Nothing else is on the IDE cable. The motherboard also has 4-SATA 2 cable slots. One (SATA-1) of these 4 has the harddrive hooked up to it. This is a brand new dvd/cd burner. The od one acted exactly the same way....played audio cd.....but no sound.
I just took it to PC repair shop and they have tried 3- new sound cards...to no avail...and they are stumped. I left the PC with them and they are going to try find an older Creative sound card, hoping that win7 will accept the driver.

Again Thank You for your response and anymore suggestions will be APPRECIATED. And if the tech guys find anything out, I will post the information.

Best Regards

Hello to all that responded and anyone else that may run across this NO SOUND FROM DVD/CD PLAYER-BURNER ISSUE. My Biostar Model A785GE and I would imagine many other motherboards that has a SATA CONNECTIONS and an IDE connection.........BEWARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.........BE ADVISED!!!!!!! Ignore the IDE connection for using it for an AUDIO device, such as a DVD/CD Burner connection!!! The on the motherboard audio board can NOT communicate Audio signals from the DVD/CD payer-writer-burner. Buy a SATA DVD/CD BURNER!!!!! AND IT WILL WORK FINE IN WIN7-64-BIT!!!

THANK YOU AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL THE RESPONDED!!!!

Was wondering if it may be something along those lines..

Just for perspective... The IDE on this Gigabyte board does work for audio so it may be motherboard specific. The configuration is the same as the O.P's, four SATA connecters and one IDE connector... but it works on this model.

I had started to reply to this thread last night but got bumped off the board, my suggestion was to check your IDE BIOS settings and see if any options were offered.

Ageeb that cable you are referring too hasn't been needed for over 10 years at least, and even then was only really needed on a few specific CD drives from back then.

Aphelion, don't think it should but would it make a difference if it was a 40 wire vs 80 wire IDE cable?

Could be, it's about the same time that audio started being piped directly over IDE.

hmmm....
