Audio CD - RAW File System

Hi All...

Not sure if the is the correct forum or not.??

A colleague at work gave me a music CD to listen to today (Digimax CD-R x52), but when I got it home to listen to on my laptop, I could not see the data on the disk.?.

Using Disk Management I was able to see that the under "File System", while all other drives were showing as NTFS, this was displaying RAW.

My understanding of RAW is that it is not recognised my Windows as being a properly formatted disk,..??. BUT.. When this disk is inserted in the player in the car, the music is recognised.!!!

My question... Is it possible to view the songs on the disk and copy to the hard drive????
Is the some software out there that could manage this type of conversion????

FYI.. Am running windows 7 Ultimate x32

Hope someone out the can help shed some light on this one???

This is confusing as RAW is an image format. A RAW photograph can be created by a DSLR camera and is an uncompressed exact image of what the camera saw when the shutter was opened. All aspects of the photo can be edited in the RAW format including the White balance etc.

I guess your friend has either just copied a commercial CD. (To pass that on to someone else is illegal by the way) or he has ripped a CD and got confused with the subsequent burning.

I do understand raw as in image.. But my concern is raw as in file system I.e. NTFS or FAT32 etc.

To me it looks like the CD was created with the original audio format without converting the audio tracks to say... MP3 or FLAC etc..

Thus the RAW File System and why Windows will not recognise the data but it can still play the songs in the car sound system.!!

Thank Mitchell65.. I too found that article and I too tried ReClaiMe to see if it would/could see the audio files. It recognised all drives except the one that contained the CD.! Soooooo I am thinking that this disk will have to remain the property of car Stereo system cause there aint nothing that I can see that will enable me to view the contents of that disk from Windows or even Ubuntu.!! Is the work colleague no longer "accessible"? Maybe Agent 006 can offer a clue as to how the cd list of songs was compiled and burned?
