Audio cuts in and out randomly under windows 7 ultimate

Ok so it doesn't matter what I'm doing, my audio cuts in and out randomly. I thought it might be a faulty board (and seeing as its built into my mother board I can't take it out and try another one) so I tried swapping over to my digital audio out on my graphics card. That yielded even worse results as not only would it cut out but every so often it'd come back artifacted and require resetting the audio on the video card to get it back. This is a relatively fresh install, but it was doing this before I had issues and needed to reinstall. So I'm thinking its a problem inside windows 7 itself.

Any thoughts guys?

Run the (free) DPC Latency Checker and see what that shows, as a start.

Why would I run a latency check? I get no other signs of latency such as frame loss or screen tearing.

There can be other problems beside frame loss or screen tearing. When I first built my new recording studio system, there were no signs of any problems and even the PC sound was OK. However, when recording I would get occasional dropouts and crackles. I ran the DPC Latency Checker and it showed a problem. As it turned out, mine was sort of "self inflicted" as I had installed the Gigabyte EasyTune6 program and that was causing my problems. Wasn't any drivers or hadware, it was a running program.

There is also the Resplendence Latency program, that gets much deeper into what the cause is. Even with my computer background, I have problems understanding everything it tells you.

sorry for the delay its been a few days since I had time to work on this problem. I ran it and saw no anomalies, I don't know if this just means I missed them or if they don't exist.
