ok hi,

i have just purchased a PC which im running as a server, with server 2008 (windows 7)

I have managed to find the drivers for the NIC, now all that i need are the audio drivers.

I have the multimedia controller in device manager, and it finds no drivers online. I have downloaded and installed some drivers i found, and they appeared to install fine, but when i open the audio properties in control panel, there is no audio device selectable. If i look in device manager, i see that its installed the driver for SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio. My volume control in the taskbar also remains with an x.

any ideas on a fix for this, its quite urgent and i need audio drivers.

here are my stats:

Mainboard Model: Intel Corporation D865GBF
Chipset: Intel i865P/PE/i848P
Southbridge: 82801EB (ICH5)
CPU: Intel Pentium 4

ive never had any problems sourcing drivers for old hardware for a newer os, so i beginning to thing i may be screwed

Thanks for any help!!

Your biggest problem is the age of that old 856G chipset and the zero lack of any Windows 7 support. Probably find it is running at the bare minimum (as in just enough to function) with whatever default driver Windows installed for it. If you haven't yet give this a try for the chipset,

then try the last XP driver for the audio,

For the audio driver you may have to use compatibility mode to get it to install,

i guess this is a driver compatibility issue

Thanks!

May not do anything, but did you run the Intel chipset update utility?
