I am running Windows 7 on a machine with a GigaByte GA-MA790XT-UD4P mobo with onboard Hi Definition Audio. I dl'd the most recent driver from RealTek and would like to install it. I pulled up Device Manager and under Sound, Video and Game Controllers it shows ATI High Definition Audio Device and High Definition Audio Device. Is the first one connected to my video card (ATI Radeon 5750 1 Gb)?And do I need to uninstall the High Definition Audi Device to update the driver?

No you wouldnt need to, if the driver is correct for the device it will overwrite.

Yes it is, and no you don't. ATI cards have (since HD 2xxx series) all have a built-in Realtek audio chip on the for using audio over HDMI, and the driver for it gets installed when you install the ATI driver, and will also work with the actual Realtek drivers. One thing the actual Realtek driver will do is to allow you to configure (albeit limited) it like the Realtek onboard audio.

The High Def Audio Device will be your onboard audio without the proper drivers, which if you want to use the onboard audio needs the Realtek driver. It will work enough in that you will get sound using the default HD driver, but it will be limited and have very limited control options.

Thanx Stormy, it installed just fine, I like having the equalizer that comes with the RealTek driver.

You're welcome.

That is the one advantage of installing the actual Realtek driver over the one that comes with the ATI video driver. The one that comes with the ATI driver is just the base audio driver, no extra control panel.
