Hi all,

May I know how to do I set the IRQ to my Firewire?
I am holding on to Focusrite 24PRO soundcard via Firewire connection.

As my motherboard do not have any Firewire inlet, I decided to purchase Belkin 5U504 Firewire PCI-E card.

During this period of time, I am experiencing very bad audio glitch.

I had requested support from Focusrite and they mentioned this:

FireWire "IEEE 1394" Controller is still sharing an IRQ with the following devices:

IRQ 16 Intel(R) G33/G31/P35/P31 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1
IRQ 16 Intel(R) ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 2940
IRQ 16 Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
IRQ 16 Intel(R) ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 5 - 2948
IRQ 16 Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
IRQ 16 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

Will the rest of the items connect to other IRQ if I remove them? Can it be done this way?

I need this help urgently tho.

Hi pboong,

Have you tried updating the intel drivers for your PC?
Are you running the latest drivers (Windows-7 compatible recommended) for your Belkin expansion card?

Edit:

Just did a search for your expansion card and there appears to be no W7 drivers on the Belkin site. Could you try running the driver on the CD in compatibility mode for Windows XP or 2000?

Also have a look at this thread - may solve your issue otherwise I am unable to find any Windows 7 driver for your card :(

IRQ settings can be changed in win7 only from the bios, provided your bios has such an option. Earlier in XP, it was possible to do it manually in the Device manager.

Theoretically though, two or more devices sharing IRQ is no longer a "conflict" because PCI devices are required by the relevant standards to do so. And basically, now it is all handled by the chipset, mobo, BIOS, and device drivers, the end-user can only move cards around to different slots. If your sound card is having problems because of IRQ sharing, this is probably due to poor coding in the device driver. Try switching drivers around.

Thanks.

The reason I bought Belkin card is because I emailed them and they claimed that it is Window 7 supported. And all updates are via Microsoft.

I am running LanParty DK35T2RS mobo.
DFI LANParty:The Best OC Platform! Overclock, Motherboard, Intel, AMD

Under BIOS, I do not see any IRQ option for me either.

Before I use Belkin F5U504 Firewire card, I was using another no-brand Firewire PCI card. I do not have any audio glitch at all, just kept on getting BSOD. After trying updating my Firewire card for days, there's no more BSOD.

The only problem that I faced was music player hang. I have to turn off my Focusrite 24PRO before it will resume playing and working fine.

Hi

Try having a look at the thread I posted earlier - one way the OP got it work was by re-seating the card in another PCI slot. Weird solution but there's no harm in trying ;)

pboong, move your firewire card to another slot if you can. Certain slot will share IRQ with another slot/device.

I did that before.

I change to another PCI-E slot that is available on my mobo.

Till now, it is mystery to me. Most likely is driver issue?

I make a search around the area with my friend help that the Firewire card I am using are totally incompatible at all. Hence, audio glitch occurred.

It seem like whoever using Firewire for their breakout box (sound card) will face this issue despite having it set on Legacy.

Right now, I decided to plug in my old firewire card but it was not found at all under device manager. I had it move to other slot as well and getting same situation. Anyone care to help.

If at all possible, use a Firewire card with the Texas Instruments (TI) Firewire chip.
If that isn't available use a card that has a VIA Firewire chip.

My Belkin Firewire PCI-E card is running with Texas Instrument but it still give me glitch, jerky, snap sound tho.

As I double check via Microsoft compatibility list, it claimed that they are still working on it. :(

What sample rate are you recording at?

Also, are your graphic drivers up to date?

currently it is 96khz and right now I am not doing any recording, just more on playback tho.

My graphic card drivers? Does Graphic card got to due with this? (Yeap, it is up to date. No further prompting me for any updates)

It is funny that I put on my Firewire No-brand name on my PC and it work now.. even better than Belkin. But I am still monitoring if it will hang my player every now and then.

But I do hope there's update from Microsoft for Belkin Firewire PCI-E card that I am holding on.
