Missing Audio Device

Hi, I have a HP dv6700 laptop and im having issues with my sound. Recently the audio device has magically vanished from my system. Now I would take it as bad hardware and cry myself to sleep but yesterday while watching a youtube video the sound worked and my audio device was back. Sadly I had also just finished installing a new AV and had to restart and my audio device was missing again.

I remember the Audio Device was a Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221

Probably just a driver issue. google the audio chipset and install the driver in safe mode.

Let us know if this doesnt help

Does the on board sound show up in Devise Manager?
Or does it have a yellow exclamation mark?

If you can get into the bios, double check that it is still enabled there.

I can get into the BIOS by pressing f10 during boot however im not sure where to look as it seems the options accessible to me are extremely limited.

Not surprised. Normally that sort of things is found under "Integrated Peripherals", or occasionally it can be found under "Advanced Chipset Features". Just have a good look around in each available section and hopefully it is there.

Ehh, Just checked I could not find anything audio related in my BIOS. Just some detailed info, Memory test, and changing the boot order.

I did find a Restore Factory BIOS. However that did not help anything, Still no sound. It did however give me a scare because the first 2 trys the system did not want to boot.

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but did you ever find a fix to this issue? I have been fighting the same intermittent issues and despite searching for months, the only solution people have been giving are related to drivers. As you know, however, the driver won't install if the device cannot be detected in the first place.
