Hi guys.

I'm using Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit on a Dell Studio 1555.

I got it Xmas 09. Shortly after purchase and ever since, I get the following problem...

When watching a YouTube video (or anything with audio) the browser will freeze as it tries to load. It's the same on all browsers. I have to close the browser totally. After this happens once it won't play any audio or video whatsoever again.

If I then try to play an mp3 file from my hard drive, it won't do it. To get everything working again I have to restart the computer. When I attempt to shut down it says it can't because of the following...

"playing logoff sound"

so this prevents shut down until I manually shut it down. This is why I think it's an audio issue.

Thanks for any help. If you need to me to upload anything, that's fine, but please let me know how since I'm a noob!

Thanks again.

I looked up Device Manager and it says the following

ATI high def audio device
IDT high def audio codec

Not sure what chipset is or where to find it. Could you let me know and if there's anything else you need?

Thanks for your help

You have four different causes. First your Mcaffee (mfehidk.sys) is involved in two of them, then your usbvideo, in two more, your cd rom in the remaining two.

With that many causes I would have to think some sort of hardware problem.

I would first remove mcaffee.
then update the usbvideo driver
finally update the cd driver.

Just to make sure there is no corrupt system files I would also run a system file check
to do that
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and "/")

Let us know the results

Ken

Thanks ZigZag.

I uninstalled McAffee and performed the scan.

Result of the scan...

...found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

When I try to open that location I get "access denied".

then update the usbvideo driver
finally update the cd driver.

I don't know how to do this. I went into Devices & Printers but couldn't find anything in there.

Just bumping this in case anyone had any further ideas. The problem described in the first post has occurred 3 times since the last post.

I managed to try all zigzags suggestions, but they had no effect. The only thing I could fully complete was the following

Does anyone know how to access and what to do to remove any corrupt files?

Thanks again.
