Audio not working

My speakers are built into my monitor.
My monitor is plugged in with VGA on the monitor side and plugged into a DVI thing which is then plugged into the PC.

The audio cord is plugged in with an audion in/out jack.

I opened up control panel and clicked "Sound".
Under the playback tab there is 1 device

Digital Audio (HDMI)
High Definition Audio Device
Not plugged in

I'm not using an HDMI cord though, and it's not picking up the audio in/out cord.
Can someone help?

I even checked for new drivers but couldn't find any

If you are plugged into the PC via VGA or even DVI, that does not contain any audio.

You have to use a separate connection from the PC's GREEN Speaker out jack to the monitor. Along with the audio cable to the monitor, some monitors also require a separate power supply for the audio. You didn't provide any specs as to what the Monitor is so I can't say for sure in your case.

The "Speakers" should be set to the Default Audio Playback device in the Sound Panel. The HDMI is a separate connection and is only active if you have an HDMI cable plugged in - but that would not get you audio in your monitor's speakers.

You must have "Speakers" in your Sound panel in order to get the speaker output audio. "High Definition Audio Device" usually suggests the generic Windows installed sound driver and in many cases you need the PC vendor (or motherboard vendor in the case of a home built system) sound drivers for proper operation.

This is all I can tell you without any system specs.

Ya. I'm using the PC's Green jack too.
I just included I'm using the VGA/DVI thing because I wasn't sure if it contains audio as well.

I don't know what specs to include. The monitor is HP w1907. The monitor is also plugged into the wall, so it has an separate power source.

It could produce sound when it was plugged into my other PC tower. In my sound panel the only thing is the HDMI I mentioned, there isnt a "Speaker"

I don't know what other information to provide.

Hiyya Daniel and welcome I just had a quick look at the specs for the monitor and all I can see are the video input specs that are clearly and well documented. What isn't so clear though is what the audio set up is regards input socket.

I take it you are using a jack plug to jack plug to set the audio up?

The only other suggestion mate is to get a small audio set up if you can afford it. there are some nice little Logitecs' around that will probably give you better quality than the monitor speakers anyway.

The Logitec LS 11 2.1 are only $12 and the LS 21 2.1 $23 where I live and I have always had a different set up as I find the monitor speakers are usually very tinny.

If there is no "Speaker" listed in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel Playback section, RIGHT click in an empty area in that panel and then check to show disabled and disconnected devices. If the Speakers now show up, make that the Default Audio Playback device. Then see if you have audio in the monitor's speakers.

If the Speaker does not show up after check the listed boxes, it suggests the sound is either corrupted or the incorrect sound driver is installed. The "HD Audio Codec" is a generic Windows installed basic function driver. You should install the actual sound module driver from either the PC Vendor, or in the case of a home built system the motherboard vendor. The PC Vendor's sound driver is customized for the specific model PC.

Okk. I'm reusing this thread.
No sound at all. I can't get sound headphones either.
In the device manager, under "Sound, video and gaming" there is only 1 item there: High Definition Audio Device

Device Type: Sound, video and gaming controllers
Manufacturer: Microsoft
Location: Location 0 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus)

I ran dxdiag and clicked the "Sound" tab.
It says, No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

So how can I check if my PC has a sound card? I didn't buy this computer, I got it for free from one of my parent's friend. I read somewhere that if my audio jack is with 5 other jacks at the back, then the soundcard is built into the motherboard, if thats the case, then the person couldnt have taken the soundcard out right?

Hiyya Daniel mate I am assuming this is a desktop as we have no specs mate - would be helpful

If so where you plug the sound system in at the back of the machine there should be a panel with the four jacks in it - take look at this the jacks are on the outside and inside the case there should be a "card" that looks similar to the one in the pic.

But some specs mate it makes it so much easier.
