Perhaps it is not software related. Do you have software that lets you record both the video and the audio of that game? Maybe you could record it - then play it back. If the crackling sound is still there, then maybe you have damaged your speakers.

But I don't use the speakers as I use earphones. One thing I notice is that tho problem only starts up whenever the laptop has been on for a few hours, and I usually just restart it and the crackling is gone. Kinda weird

When it gets crackly - remove the plug for the earphones and see if the speakers make the same crackly sound.

I have seen this before and helped someone on another forum so after digging here you go.

The problem can occur very well like your playing dota which would require alot from the processor this was the same for someone else on a different game. Yes his problem was temporary solved by restart. This gave me the idea it was more to do with the heavy usage of game causing it.

Method :

1 - Right click the speaker icon in the system tray and choose Playback devices from the context menu.

2 - Highlight your default audio device (green check) and choose Properties.

3- Choose the Enhancements tab and make sure EVRYTHING on this page is unchecked, and then CHECK the option to disable all effects.

Then reboot and see how you go.
