Hi there
some places in Europe are thinking of introducing plain cigarette packs (England possibly soon).
From what I've seen of the proposed packaging they look MORE modern and sexier than the old plain blue / white or Gold etc packs.
The dangers of smoking are so well known that I can't really believe that the colour of cigarette packs will have ANY influence on whether to start or quit smoking.
I get the impression that these are just a load of Politicians trying to divert matters away from really serious issues just before an election.
Has the packaging made any difference to the number of people smoking in 'Oz. Remember there was always a downward (thank goodness) trend in the number of people smoking anyway in developed countries.
I don't smoke but if I were or if I was even considering smoking I doubt whether this packet design would influence me one tiny bit.
Cheers
jimbo

If the gov't really wanted to stem the tide, instead of changing the pack, they'd change the appearance of the cigarette. Imagine the changes in attitude if you made the ciggie look like a piece of shit hanging off your lip!

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.
Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.

From what we get told the plain packaging has reduced smoking, but whether that's true or not is debatable & of course there is a normal reduction in smoking rates as well.
Of course the price has a lot to do with it, currently here a 50 gram (2 oz) pack of roll your own tobacco cost au$48.50.

no, but the question initially is to the Aussies asking if plain cigarette packets have made a difference to sales (to my knowledge Aussies already have plain cig packets) or is it just another pointless way to spend the tax payers money for not a lot of gain.
