Authorization Issues

Hello everyone. Happy late new year. I know this topic has most likely been beaten to a pulp, but I have tried everything listed online and cannot find a solution.

I'm trying to copy some files from one folder to another, on my newly installed Windows 7. I left my laptop in for maintenance, and while they were cleaning it, they asked if I wanted to upgrade from Vista (I said yes).

Now I'm left with this permission/authorization issue.
I am the sole user of this computer, with the sole administrator account, yet there are still things I am forbidden form doing.

With these two folders and the files in them, I've granted myself full permission to both, and also made myself owner of both.
I've tried the net user administrator /active:yes[. I've disabled the UAC just in case as well.

I have no clue what else to do. I am the only one with an account, am full owner of both folders, with complete access to them, and the system will still prevent me from doing something as simple as copying files.

I've even given myself permission to the registry key of the folders I try to move, and still nothing.

Please, this problem is insanely annoying, mostly because it makes absolutely no sense.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Regards,
JFDLT06

They are both World of Warcraft folders. I'm trying to copy over the patches from one to the other.

If you have Windows Defender running (look in Services).... disable it and see if you can copy now.

exactly how are you doing when you try to copy, are you using a 3rd-party filemanager
or just windows own ?

Jacee, thanks for the tip, I'm about to try stopping WinDefend.

And I'm trying to do a regular right click copy right click paste, with Windows 7

Nope, it was not Windows Defender =(

This is downright ridiculous

It's telling me I need permission from myself.

same drive/partition? please give paths, if possible.

what's the exact error?

My Computer

OS

They are on the same partrition.

The path of the origin folder is:

C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft

and the destination is currently temporarily sitting in

C:\Users\Public\World of Warcraft
(not in games)

The exact error is that sometimes it begins copying the files, but it always gets to certain files (mostly extensions .MPQ and .html), where it tells me I need permission from myself to continue the action.

curious to see which directory is prompting this "error".... does it say which directory is having the issue with your file copy?

you can test by simply trying to copy the folder onto your desktop or eternal drive...

It is the destination which is causing the error.

Also, in properties, the origin is read only, but only because i lack the authorization to change it. As for permission and ownership, it's all me.

root problem - (disable) inherit permissions from parent on the 2 wow folders?

how many partitions?

How would I go about the inherit permission aspect of it'?

Wow Directory: Right click on the wow directory, select properties: from the properties / security tab, select Advanced. From the advanced window, down towards the bottom left hand side you might see a check box that says "inherit from parent ...."

uncheck, RESET full permissions to "EVERYONE" and "ADMINISTRATOR".

If these group(s) do not exist you'll need to "add" them

You can remove the "everyone" group after you have this fixed... but for now, don't lock yourself out.

I did as requested, but am still unable to move the folder contents. Still the same thing of asking myself for permission.
