Hi,

I have recently set the taskbar to Auto-Hide, but I am having some issues with it.

First of all, I can see a few pixels of the taskbar on the bottom of the screen (small line, not completely hidden).

And second, when I hover (the mouse) over the hidden taskbar, it comes up very slowly. Is there a way to increase the speed of this?

Thanks, I solved Question 2.

But for Question 1, I know this is normal, but is there anyway to change this?

Which toolbar do you have in the task bar?
If you right click on the taskbar>Toolbar> you can see multiple toolbars (ex. search, iTune, links, language,...etc, depending on what you have installed).
If there are some toolbars that are checked but you don't use them, you can uncheck them and see if this will help to fix the problem.
I think, the small line will disappear after reboot your system. I had such a problem many times, even some words stay stuck on the screen too!

I don't have any toolbars, and a reboot won't help... I've tried before.

If you can post some screenshot of your problem, this may help better.

Yup speedgamer, that's my issue. I don't like that line and want to remove it if possible.

Sorry, I don't see any line in this screenshot!
I see white spots on blue background, but not lines.
I wondered if this is not a theme!

Did you change your desktop theme recently?
Just wondering if this is not a defect in the theme you are using or in the monitor!
Anyway, try to change the position of your deskbar, for example put it vertically on right or on left and see if this will change something.
To change the position of deskbar, you need just to drag/paste it on the position you want.

I don't want to change my taskbar position. Look, this is on ALL Windows 7 machines, Microsoft made it like this. Try auto-hide yourself, you will get the same line as I do. I'm just looking for a solution to remove this...

:)
Microsoft placed the deskbar in one of 4 possible positions: top, bottom, left or right. Microsoft can't place the deskbar in 4 positions at the same time.
It is, then, up to user to place the deskbar where he wants without any effect on its functions. By simple drag/drop you can place it up, bottom, on the left or on the right of your screen. Whatever the position, it works always in the same way.
I am using the auto-hiding feature since years and I have the desk-bar in a vertical position, on right. But I don't have the problem you are talking about.
If I asked you to try to change its position, it just to test if your problem persists.
The new position is temporal as you can easily restore it by simple drag/drop.

I looked for it a while ago and gave up, it is such a tiny problem that it is almost more annoying that you can't fix it easily! Now I had a quick google around and found this, which isn't what you asked for, but after trying various other useless programs to hide the taskbar, at least it works smoothly, uses Alt+T to toggle the taskbar: Taskbar Eliminator
And no more thin line at the bottom, side, top.
Maybe one of the theme-builders will check in here and suggest a hack that we could do ourselves.

@sevener - Wut? Sorry but you are kinda off-topic. Yes, I know you can place the taskbar on and side you want, but that won't remove the problem, and even if it did, I wouldn't change its position because I don't like the taskbar anywhere else except the bottom.

@debugged - Thanks, but that's not a solution I'm willing to use. Ya, I'm looking for a hack probably as there is no official MS way to do this...

The only way would be if you could make the taskbar transparent for the time that is closed down. There must be a bar of pixels, which you can mouseover.
I think it would be a lot of coding, because there is no solution out there. What is the reason that you want it disappear? Maybe we could solve it easily from an other point of view.

Well its just annoying, and a waste of space even if its really small. Mac (ugh) can do it, why can't Windows?

If your monitor controls allow you to either increase the raster/screen height, or, allow you to move the screen lower, that might help.
