The short:
I've created a shortcut in the Startup folder for a program I want to run at logon. This program seems to need administrative privileges to run properly. The account I'm using isn't an administrator account. I've opened properties, compatibility, change for all users, clicked run as administrator and entered my password. When I reboot the program still doesn't start. Is there a way to make this happen? What are my options?

The long:
The box I'm trying to do this on is a little Atom powered HTPC in my living room. It's setup running Windows 7 Ultimate x32 with a hack for multiple concurrent sessions, because it's also used as a server with IIS, FTP, ect. With this setup I can remote into the box and change IIS settings without booting my girlfriend off the TV. The program I'm trying to launch at boot is Gmote Server. I have the other half installed my on my Android phone and for those who aren't familiar, it turns your phone into a remote running over WiFi. I need this "server" application to start at login of the "media" user.

Try this,

When done, add the task name to your startup. In the registry under Current User Run it would look like this for the app PeerBlock. The shortcut made from the tutorial link could also be placed in your startup folder.

Awesome idea, didn't think of that.

I created the task and shortcut this from the administrator account and placed it in the startup folder of the "media" account. On startup, however, I'm getting an error on as the shortcut is launched:

Error: Access is denied.

Seems that I don't have permissions to launch that shortcut. Is there a way to get around this?

Thanks for the help. :)

I tried both.

When I set as the user logging it, it has permissions problems.

When I set as the admin user, the server program seems to run and I can connect, but doesn't function properly. The program is controlling the cursor and other such things, and I'm guessing running it as a different user stops these things from working they way I'm intending them to.

What is the app/file you are wanting to run? Can you adjust the premissions on it from your Admin account?
