A few weeks ago one of my kids said that she got a phone call from some "company" wanting troubleshoot some thing on the computer. She went for it and evidently gave them the last four digits of either the Win7 registration key or a computer ID number. Se cut off the conversation w/them after that.

So a week or so later I've begun noticing a slowdown and occasional freezing of autocad. My computer otherwise is running fine w/ no problems.

I've run Outpost for spyware and ESET Nod 32 / Malwarebytes for virus check and they all come back clean.

Before I go to the trouble of reinstalling autocad, might the 2 be related? And if so, what action would you suggest to remedy the problem.

Sorry for the long-winded exlpanation.

Run Task Manager and see what tasks are running on your system both with and without AutoCad. A very clean Win7 system will have around 45 tasks running with no programs open. If you have some strangely named tasks (i. e., ones with names made from random characters) you likely have some sort of virus and need to get it removed.

Also get AutorunS and look at all the things your system starts when it boots. Again, look for things that don't make sense. You can use AutorunS to disable any started task but keep it around for reinstating later.

If it turns out you have a virus or rootkit that you can't remove take a look at ComboFix. It is a very powerful (and scary) virus/rootkit remover that seems to be the best out there and that can fix things other programs can't even see.
