Hi! Recently I have started up my pc and it says that it will check for errors (disk check) on my local "C:" disk. This is normal. But what is not normal is that it will say
" cannot open volume for direct access"
" this might be due to a recently installed program"
I have Norton 360 Premier Edition, but I don't know if that is what is causing the problem. I would greatly appreciate everyone's response.:D

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
I had the same problem after testing anti-virus programs. UltimateDefrag and chkdsk wouldn't run at boot but Puran defrag would.

Uninstalling everything didn't help. chkdsk from a CD boot ran OK, no errors.

I look at "autoruns" and found a left-over driver ofdogeeg.sys from Malware Defender, and renamed it to ofdogeeg.sys.bogus because the registry entry was protected. Reboot and everything worked.

I know this post is old but someting that worked for me is running disk check manually you can do this by typing "chkdsk /f /r C:" but substitute C: for what ever drive you have. It may ask you to type Y/N because the disk is being used. Just type 'Y' and then press the 'enter' button. Next restart your system. This should do the trick!
