Solved Automatic update fails on reboot

My PC keeps bugging me to shut down for an important update and I keep postponing it for 4 hours, until I can't stand it any more. So three times in a row I have let it do the stupid update, and every time it gets to where it should be finishing up, it says it could not complete the update and is reverting back to the previous state. What is the problem here? How do I end this cycle? I don't even want the stupid update.

If you would, please go into Windows Update itself from the Control Panel (icons view), click on Check for Updates, click on the link there to see what updates this is for, and post back with a screenshot of them. If you install them through Windows Update instead, do they finish installing?

There is no link like that. It says most recent check for updates was Today and updates were installed Today. Then there is a link to Update History, but that is only stuff that has been successfully updated, not failed updates or pending updates. If that's what you meant, I will post that.

If you install them through Windows Update instead, do they finish installing?

What? I don't install them any way, the OS does it. How would I do that?

If that fix doesn't help, then try using OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to completely reset Windows Update. Afterwards, click on the Check for updates link in the left pane of Windows Update to see if you have any updates available.

Windows Update now says there are 8 updates to install.

So I am saying yes to that.

Nope, still got 8 updates to do...So Option three is done now, still got 8 updates to do, am I supposed to do them now? It doesn't say in Option 3...I have now done the 8 updates again for the 20th time. It wouldn't suck so bad if it didn't tie up my PC for half an hour every time. So nothing has worked. Is it giving you an error number or message when you try to install them and it fails?

No, just says failure to update, restarting in the flowery windows 7 screen. I am doing them one at a time now and it's working so far. I was able to get the 4 important updates to go all at once. It's the optional ones that are rerquiring individual attention. A couple didn't need rebooting, but most do, so this is really tedious at about 15 minutes a session.

While I'm at it, what make MS think I want this BING DESKTOP BS in my system? Now it is in my update list and there seems no way to get rid of it. Seems like they put it there hoping you'll just forget and select all one day, and then it's more spamware installed in your system.

For optional updates you do not want, you could jusy hide them to not see them anymore.

So how do I get it to quit asking me to install Bing desktop? I tried to install it and then uninstall it, hoping that it would no longer show in the updates. That didn't work, when I checked for updates again, it was still showing. How do you make something go away in the update list?
