have you checked autoplay settings in control panel, make sure you select the option 'use autoplay for all media and devices' in control panel under autoplay category.

encountered the same problem , did enable "use autoplay..." but still the same.
also tried to run Shell Hardware Detection and made sure the the service status is running but still the same.
I think it is with windows 7 itself,i havent tried the registry though but i doubt if it will help.
