Autoplay

Sometimes when I start up my computer, my external hard drives (two of the three I have) decide to autoplay and I have to keep closing the windows that pop up.

I have tried altering the autoplay options but it doesn't help.

What's going on and how do I stop it?

I don't want to turn off autoplay altogether - just want to stop the hard drives firing up when I start the computer that's all.
